National Schools Regatta

On the 22nd - 24th May, 5,479 junior rowers from all over Great Britain descended on the English National Watersports Centre, Nottingham, to take part in the annual National Schools Regatta.
ASRA entered a total of 10 crews and six of them battled successfully through gruelling time trials and semi-finals to reach the final of their event.

Such was however the standard of the finals at this year's regatta, that ASRA's only medallists in the end were our Women's Junior 16 Coxless Pair - Sade Hudgell-Igweke and Sam Cassidy - who, having dominated their semi-final and having led most of the way in the final, were sadly out-powered by our nemises of last year from Glasgow Academy in the closing stages of the race.

Congratulations to them on their hard-fought silver, but also to our other five finalists, who put in such magnificent, gut-busting performances in our colours to reach the last six in their event:

• Men's Junior 18 Championship Coxless Pairs: Ollie Kinghorn & Gregor Duncan (4th)
• Men's Junior 14 First Division Coxed Quadruple Sculls : Aidan Graham, Sam Kelso, Miles Beeson & Daniel Lynch, coxed by Michael McCrory (4th)
• Men's Junior 18 Coxed Fours: Alistair Frost, Andrew Main, Gregor Pittendreigh ≈ Lawrence Jennings, coxed by Michael McCrory (5th)
• Men's Junior 15 Coxed Fours: Michael McCrory, Conrad Forbes, Robert Powell & Calum Bell, coxed by Seth Turner (6th)
• Men's Junior 16 Coxless Fours: Ross Napier, Calum Bird, Hamish Dunnett & Jacob Turner (6th)

Our thanks as always to the drivers, coaches and supporting parents without whom our participation in this premier event would not have been possible.
